A chat with
Dave Leonard, Patriot Dart League,
Stars & Stripes Tournament Director

We asked Dave why he decided to go all-in with DartConnect in his event's second year...

I have watched DartConnect over the last couple of years become the best-in-class darts software available with features you can't get anywhere else. I want my league and tournament to always be on the cutting-edge, to always innovate, so when planning this year's Stars & Stripes, we were determined to be the first open tournament to have 100% coverage with tablets set up on every board. It required some effort, but I am so glad we did this and hope that this helps prove what is possible.

We immediately noticed an impact on our event being run more smoothly and matches finishing quicker. DartConnect makes scoring so easy, some people didn't even bother waiting or asking for a chalker, many decided to chalk their own games because scoring on DartConnect doesn't disrupt a player's rhythm like manual chalking. I had backup white boards behind the desk in case anyone insisted, but nobody asked for one and even those who were using DartConnect for the first time seemed to pick it up quickly.

DartConnect is the future of the sport and having a tool like this can grow participation as well as bring more respect to the game. At the Patriot Dart League, we are looking seriously at providing this for every team so we can start moving towards paperless reporting and saving several hours every week by making stat collection effortless.
DartConnect is really the best way to move the sport forward and we plan to work with it as much as we can to help bring darts into the future.

Fwd: Get on board with Marksman Cricket

Watch our video:
Cricket Scoring Overview
What is Marksman Cricket?

Marksman will soon become
DartConnect's Default Cricket mode

Learn below how Marksman can make Cricket scoring faster, easier and more meaningful...

Easily switch to Standard Cricket Scoring by tapping the Gold button at the start of the game

What is Marksman Cricket?
Marksman Cricket is DartConnect's advanced cricket mode, speeding up scorekeeping with buttons for doubles and triples, and also tracking advanced cricket statistics such as "Target %" and "Bull & Trip %".

Because of this, it is important to input scores that exactly match the darts that are thrown.

Double & Triple Buttons?
In Marksman Cricket, each number is flanked by a Double and a Triple button.  Tap these buttons ONLY for darts that hit triples and doubles.

Three taps per turn!
Marksman only accepts up to three taps per turn, one for each dart.  Tap the button that EXACTLY matches what each dart hits.  Use the # Button for darts that hit a single, use the  button for darts that hit a triple and use the  button for darts that hit a double.
D and T Buttons are NOT shortcuts!
It is INCORRECT to hit the button if three single marks are hit, same with the button for 2 marks. Only use the button for Triples and the Button for Doubles.  If you use either button as a shortcut, DartConnect will record that as a Triple or Double hit instead of single marks.
Why is this important?
Marksman Cricket tracks every dart, calculating MPR and advanced stats that are only possible with DartConnect such as Target % and Triple & Bull %.
What is MPR?
MPR is an acronym for "Marks Per Round", the Cricket equivalent to "Points Per Round" in 501. Essentially, this means how many times you "score" in a round. In some parts of the country this is also known as "hits", "counts" or a "round of #". Regardless, if your darts connect with an open target, then you will mark the scoreboard with a slash, circle or points, contributing to your Marks Per Round Average for the leg.
What is Target %?
How many of your darts hit a valid, open target? If your target % is 60%, then 40% of your darts have missed. This is a strong indicator of your consistency, as a player. For instance, if you throw 3 single 20's, your target % for that turn is 100%. If you throw 1 triple 20, but the other two darts are wide, then you your target % is 33%.

Either way, you Marks per Round are 3.0, but how you achieved them, is very different.

What is Bull & Trip %?
Bulls and triples are the "skill shots" of cricket. For most players, it is an accomplishment. For elite players, they are the primary targets. Whether you are a clutch shooter or elite player, you know what percent of your shooting is hitting the big targets.
